Alley makes coffee shop stop in Mac
Rep. Jim Weidner joins him in a show of support

Republican gubernatorial candidate Allen Alley dropped by Union Block Coffee in downtown McMinnville Thursday to visit with voters. Alley, considered one of the frontrunners for the GOP nomination, with Chris Dudley, was wrapping up his campaign with a statewide tour.
State Rep. Jim Weidner of Yamhill, unopposed in the primary but facing opposition in November, joined Alley at the event. He said the two have gotten to know each other during the campaign and said Alley has good ideas on how to revamp Oregon’s ailing economy.
Both candidates said they will make jobs and the economy their top priority if they’re elected in November.
McMinnville was one stop in a tour that took Alley through 30 counties in seven days. His coalitions director, Brad McKinney, said most of the stops have been at local gathering places like Union Block.
In Pendleton, the delegation stopped at Hamley’s Steak House. In the Dalles, it was Spooky’s Pizza.
Alley is no stranger to cross-state travel. He launched his campaign last year by walking the 400 miles from Baker City to Portland.
He said this week’s tour – taken in a Chevy Tahoe rather than a pair of walking shoes – was a way to visit some of the people he met the first time around…
